The Algarve, Portugal

Portugal's southernmost province has been synonymous with exclusive holidaying ever since the mid 1960s. Unlike Spain's overdeveloped 'Costas', the Algarve learnt early to curb urban planning blunders holding onto much of its original charm and recently endorsing strict planning regulations to ensure its low rise and low density image.

Exclusive resorts such as Quinta do Lago and Vale do Lobo, epitomise the regions calibre and its successful transformation into one of Europes finest holiday destinations.

Central Algarve

Stretching between Faro and Vilamoura, The Algarves central area contains many of its major attractions and infrastructure. The Western and Eastern parts of The Algarve certainly have their plus points, but for the more discerning of visitors and potential residents, the Central Algarve has the edge. With more regular flights available from the UK, Faro International Airport is only minutes from many of the regions most exclusive addresses.

Quinta do Lago

Quinta do Lago is without a doubt one of the most exciting and exclusive resorts in Europe and understandably boasts some of the most spectacular and beautiful villas in the Algarve.

Quinta do Lago is a symbol of quality and one of the few places in the world where you can purchase a luxury villa, an apartment or a townhouse and enjoy a sophisticated lifestyle in the tranquil surrounding areas of a nature reserve with the best golf the Algarve has to offer. Founded in 1972, covering some 800 hectares, borders miles of unspoilt golden beaches and the pristine Atlantic Ocean, undulating pine forests and the Ria Formosa Nature Reserve.

The development of the Quinta do Lago estate is regulated by the General Plan of Urbanization, which has been officially approved. This controls the distribution of individual villa plots, commercial and mixed development within the larger plots allocated for tourist 'villages'.

Special attention is paid to the environment at Quinta do Lago because 18.4 hectares of the Ria Formosa Natural Park falls within its boundaries. This tidal inlet is the UNESCO protected home of migratory birds and a wetland of world importance. It is one of the last unspoilt coastal zones in Europe. Quinta do Lago has created two nature trails, which have been designed to enhance awareness of the environment value of the area.

The Ria Formosa is a lagoon separated from the sea by a coastal dune system, which is broken up by various natural and artificial inlets. It includes a narrow strip of land and a series of coastal dunes running almost parallel to the mainland, formed by peninsulas and sandy barried-islands which serve to protect the salt marshes, channels and islets.

The Ria Formosa is a protected area carrying the status of 'Natural Reserve'. It was legally established as such in 1987 with its own management plan and with the objectives of preserving the lagoon system, fauna, flora and migratory species, thus contributing to its economic, social and cultural progress. This protected area extends through the districts of Loulé, Olhão, Tavira and Vila Real de Santo António covering an area of approx. 18,400 hectares along 60 kilometres of coastline.

Vale do Lobo

The first luxury tourist resort to be established in The Algarve and now attracts investors from all over the world. Vale do Lobo is an exclusive community set amongst golf courses and the beach with a varied property portfolio including the finest beach front properties and building plots in The Algarve.
